March Favorites

tarte amazonian clay 12 hour foundation, the balm meet matt(e) hughes, cosrx acne pimple master patch, nars creamy radiant concealerHappy April everyone! March was a busy month, but it didn’t stop me from picking up a few new things, including my new holy grail concealer!

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation | This is my favorite foundation for when my skin is behaving. I find that when I’m dealing with dry, flaky skin, this base tends to accentuate it. Fortunately, I’ve had pretty good skin this month (fingers crossed it stays that way), and this foundation makes everything look even better.

Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch | I know I just said I had pretty good skin throughout March, BUT when I did have a couple small pimples a few weeks ago, I slapped some of these guys on, and the next morning, they looked 75% better. Acne-prone people need to get on the hydrocolloid bandage train ASAP. These little patches help protect wounds from bacteria (and causing further infection), draw out all the “gunk” from the breakout, and, in my experience, speed up the healing time dramatically. I don’t think I can be without these from now on.

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipsticks | I wrote a whole post about the shade Committed, and I mentioned at the end of it that I had already picked up another color. I ended up getting the shade Charming, which is a deeper version of Committed, and I’ve been wearing both of them off-and-on for weeks. I used to think that liquid lipsticks weren’t for me, but I’ve found that I’ve been wearing lipstick more since I’ve gotten these. I think the fact that I don’t really have to worry about the product smudging or getting on my teeth is what makes these so great for me.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer | Possibly the most popular concealer of all-time? After years of hearing literally every blogger and Youtuber rave about it, I finally have my very own! I got it in Vanilla, and it’s a perfect match. It’s very full-coverage, so I do have to be careful not to apply too much, or it can look a little cakey by the end of the day. Other than that, I think this is the best concealer I’ve ever used. Don’t you love it when a product lives up to the hype?!

February beauty favorites

febfavorites2016Surprisingly, I don’t have too many favorites this month despite trying so many new things. I guess I’m still forming opinions on most of them. Here are five products that did manage to solidify a place in my heart:

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette | I’ve actually had this palette for over a year, but I don’t think I’ve ever featured it as a monthly favorite. I especially like Dim Light; I’ve been using it to set my concealer around my eyes, and it’s the least detectable powder I’ve ever used. It gives the skin an airbrushed look, which, for someone with large pores like me, is a godsend.

Wet n Wild Max Volume Plus Waterproof Mascara | This is one of the best mascaras I’ve used, and also one of the cheapest! I wouldn’t say it’s the most volumizing mascara out there, but it holds a curl well and doesn’t make my lashes look spidery. It’s a great every day mascara that I’ll definitely be repurchasing.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | I’m actually surprised by how much I like this cleanser! It’s the gentlest cleanser I’ve ever used, and I like that it can be used as a first step, makeup-removing cleanser, or as a regular cleanser on dry skin. It removes mascara well (I’ve used it to remove the Wet n Wild waterproof mascara, and it gets almost all of it) and it doesn’t strip my skin or make it feel tight at all.

Milani Color Statement Lipstick “Pretty Natural” | I know I’m not supposed to be buying more lipsticks, but…I guess I don’t have an excuse. I just wanted a new lipstick, okay?! This is a great natural color. I wouldn’t say it’s a “my lips but better” shade, because it is a slightly warm pink, but it’s definitely not bold. The formula is very good; it slightly stains the lips, so it continues to look good as it wears off.

Wet n Wild Contour Brush | In my review of the new Wet n Wild brushes, I mentioned that this one was probably my favorite of the bunch, and it continues to be. Aside from a powder brush to set my concealer, this is the only other brush I’ve been using. It’s super soft, and the bristles are very flexible, almost wispy. It’s great for when you want your contour and/or bronzer to be super blown out and blended.

What were your favorites this month? By the way, if you aren’t following me on Instagram, please do! I’m starting to post mini reviews on things like sheet masks that don’t really make it to the blog.

January Favorites

I only have a few favorites this month. I did a ton of shopping (like an embarrassing amount) but most of it either arrived within the past week, or I haven’t formed a full opinion on it yet. Here’s what I’m absolutely sure I loved in January:

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Cushion Foundation | I know I just wrote about this last week, but it really was my favorite foundation in January. I wore it almost exclusively from the day I bought it. The natural appearance and light coverage combine to make a formula that works really well for me.

Wet n Wild Wonder Gel Nail Polishes | These were definitely the standout product of January. I absolutely love the opaque, long-lasting formula of these. I’m not a nail polish connoisseur, but I think these might just be the best ones I’ve tried. Check out my review here.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Rosé Champagne | When Wet n Wild reformulated their Color Icon blushes, they came out with a new color, Rosé Champagne. It’s a shimmery peach, and it is gorgeous. The shimmery particles aren’t chunky; they create just enough glow to make this a slightly highlighting blush. It has a warm undertone, but I think this is one of those everyday blushes that works with any look.

Christine Kobzeff | My last favorite of the month is a Youtuber I discovered a few weeks ago. Christine has a lifestyle channel that focuses on cruelty-free and vegan products. I love her “What I eat in a day” videos because the food she eats is simple and accessible, and it’s been great inspiration for me to try to eat better. Her personality is also really refreshing. I feel like most of the big beauty Youtubers are in their early to mid-20s, and their content is for teens and young girls. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, but I like that Christine’s content feels like it’s more for my age range.

September Favorites

septemberfavorites septemberfavorites2It’s not often that I find a new favorite foundation, mascara, and shampoo all in the same month, but it happened in September! Here are all the products I loved in September:

ColourPop Lumiere | I’ve had this lipstick since spring and never wore it that often, but I think it’s perfect for fall. It’s a slightly deeper MLBB shade for me, and I think it’s very comfortable on the lips. I don’t have any complaints about it!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 HR Foundation | I started hearing a bunch of YouTubers raving about this foundation, and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect formula, so I picked it up right away. I second guessed myself and bought the second lightest shade, then had to return it for the lightest one. The packaging makes it difficult to see the color of the product inside…they all look almost exactly the same, but that’s the only complaint I have. I love this foundation! I was getting so sick of my makeup sliding off this summer, and this actually lives up to its claims. It’s probably the fullest-coverage foundation I have, and it doesn’t gather around my nose, which is my number one complaint with foundations. It also doesn’t make my face completely flat and lifeless, like you might expect with a super matte full-coverage product. I don’t know if it beats my Covergirl 3-in-1 foundation, but I’d say this is already in my top three all-time favorite foundations.

Covergirl Lashblast Volume Waterproof Mascara | I have to thank a reader for suggesting this mascara! Thank you, Gwendolyn, who commented on my Disappointing Products post and recommended this mascara. I LOVE IT. I think…no, you know what? I KNOW I like it better than Maybelline The Rocket waterproof. Am I the only one who feels sad when my holy grail product gets replaced? I never thought I’d find something I liked better, but I really, truly do like the Lashblast better. It holds a curl like nothing else AND it looks even more natural than The Rocket. The only thing I wish was different is the wand. It’s pretty huge, so it gets on my eyelids quite a bit when I apply it, but that’s easily fixed with a q-tip.

Trader Joe’s Lavender Salt Scrub | I’ve purchased this a few times over the past couple of years. I believe it’s a seasonal product that Trader Joe’s only carries in fall/winter, so I always pick one up when I see it. This stuff is heavenly. The scent is so lovely and spa-like, and it’s probably the scrubbiest scrub I’ve ever used. I have the world’s driest legs, and this fixes them right up and leaves them super soft and moisturized. I use it several times a week, and I never feel like it’s too much.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo | I’ve always used the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo, but recently I felt like it was too stripping, and I wanted to try out something else from the brand. The Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo is the shampoo I’ve been looking for ever since I started learning about curl-friendly products. It lathers up, but it also doesn’t feel harsh at all. In fact, it feels moisturizing, probably because of the coconut and neem oils. The scent is really pleasant as well.

What a month! What were your favorite products in September?

August Favorites

Things have been quiet on the beauty front around here the past few months because honestly, I’ve been using the same things every day for…a really long time. It’s only recently that I’ve picked up a few new products I’ve been excited about.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue | This is a really interesting face product that’s become a staple on lazy days. It’s light coverage, but it covers just enough for those good skin days. It blends into the skin really nicely, too. It doesn’t last all day on me, but this summer has been so hot and humid, I don’t think a product exists that could last all day. I think I’m going to really love it in fall and winter for when I need a little bit of moisture along with something to even out my skin tone.

Hard Candy Plumping Serum Gel Stick #854 Desired | I picked this up when I went to Wisconsin in June. Since there’s no Walmart in New York, I can’t get my hands on Hard Candy too easily; in fact, this is the first and only Hard Candy product in my collection. I’m really happy I picked this up because I love it! I’m so impressed by how comfortable it is on the lips and how well it wears. It’s a very opaque and somewhat bright color (for me) which made it the perfect color to wear this summer. I definitely want to pick up a few more of these the next time I find myself in Walmart.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfecter Champagne Pop | I had to give in to the hype on this one, I just couldn’t resist! The weirdest thing is, I’m not even a huge highlighter fan and I didn’t watch Jaclyn Hill’s videos before I heard of this collaboration. But when everyone, and I mean everyone raves about something, including the people whose opinions on makeup I hold in very high esteem, I knew I needed this. Happily, it lives up to the countless rave reviews. It gives a perfect pop of shine, and it’s a great warm shade that I think would look great on almost every skin tone. I also have to hand it to whoever named the product because I don’t think there is anything that could describe it better than “champagne pop”.

Beautyblender | The Real Techniques Complexion Sponge has been my most used makeup applicator for ages, and I still like it a lot, but I was getting annoyed at the little chunks of orange sponge that would end up on my face or in the sink as I washed it. I’d never used the original Beautyblender, but I knew it had to be a longtime favorite for good reason, so I figured I’d finally try it out to see if it was better than the Real Techniques counterpart. The (sometimes) frugal part of me hates to admit it, but I like the Beautyblender more. As soon as I felt it, I could tell it was made of much better quality material. I’m not sure if it actually applies makeup better, but knowing that it won’t shed and break apart on me is enough to know that it’s a good investment.

What are your thoughts on these products? Does Champagne Pop live up to the hype for you? Let me know!
