January Favorites

My favorites this month were pretty simple. I was focused mainly on combating my parched winter skin…

Vaseline | I’ve already talked about my Vaseline love affair in previous posts, but I wanted to mention it again. Every night, the last step in my skincare routine is to slather this over my entire face. It sounds really, really weird, but it’s actually pretty safe and effective. The molecules that make up Vaseline are too big to clog your pores, so it will not break you out, and it locks in the moisture from your night cream like nothing else. I will definitely continue to use this nightly throughout winter.

Aquaphor | I mentioned Aquaphor in my very first post on this blog, and I’ve continued to love it, and I’m sure I will forever and ever. I was using a different hand cream for a while when it wasn’t so dry out, but now that it’s the dead of winter, nothing else cuts it for me. I NEED Aquaphor! It completely transforms my skin. The difference is most obvious in my cuticles. It even helped with some eczema-like patches I was getting on my hands, which are now completely gone. Basically, I would recommend this stuff to anyone and everyone.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge | I jumped on the Beauty Blender/Sponge applicator trend very late (just like every other trend), but I am so glad I finally saw the light. I don’t know if I can go back to applying foundation and concealer with a brush. I feel like every brush I’ve tried has just lifted up all the dry skin and made it look flaky under my makeup, especially around my nose. It just doesn’t happen with the sponge. I’ve never tried the Beauty Blender, but from what I’ve heard, there’s basically no difference, so I’m glad I tried out the $5 option, so I know I don’t need to splurge on the $20 Beauty Blender.

NYX Taupe Blush + Real Techniques Contour Brush | This blush from NYX is kind of a cult favorite contour product for pale folks, so naturally I had to try it out for myself. I’ve had it for quite a while and thought it was alright, I guess because I’m just not that into contouring in the first place. I really started liking it and wanting to use it every day when I tried applying it with the Real Techniques Contour Brush. I think before, I was using a much fuller, fluffier brush that was spreading the product around too much, whereas the contour brush is great for a much more subtle application just under the cheekbones.

There you have it! Not the most exciting products this month, but I feel like I found a couple things that are going to be staples in my permanent routine. What have you been loving this month?

I have that Aquaphor and absolutely adore it! I even have a tub of Aquaphor extensive repair I use on my son’s diaper rash. Works better than any diaper cream!
