Hi everyone! Yesterday, I was lucky enough to make it to the Essiebutton and Amelia Liana meetup at Tarte HQ in NY. Woop woop! In case you’re curious, this is what it was like…
I’ve never been to a meetup like this before. My first thought was, “This is New York, there have to be literally THOUSANDS of their viewers, and I don’t want to be stuck in the back of a line waiting for hours only to be told the meetup was over, and I wouldn’t get to meet them.” So, I got there really early…embarrassingly early. I got there at 11:45 and the meetup started at 2, so the lovely ladies at Tarte actually told me to leave and come back a little before two, haha. When I came back around 1:45, there was, of course, a line. Everyone was given a card to fill out for the chance to win one of three $100 gift cards. I was probably somewhere between the 50th-100th person, and I didn’t get to actually meet them until about 3:15! It was pretty clear by the time I got to meet them that they were trying to get through as many people as possible as quickly as possible.
When I got up to the meetup area in Tarte’s office, it was decorated really nicely with lots of sweets and a screen playing Estée’s videos. They also handed out a 20% off coupon to each person. There were about 20-25 people packed into a little waiting area in the actual meetup room. It was slightly awkward because everyone was nervously waiting in line and standing around Estée and Amelia watching each person or each two people go up. I got to talk to the ladies for maybe 15 seconds and then it was time to take pictures and leave. They were obviously so super sweet! I was so nervous, but they were really easy going and chill. As we left, we were each given a purple airplane/neck rest pillow with the Tarte logo on it, which I guess was the “special gift” they advertised.
As I left, I was in the elevator with a few other girls and we all had the same reaction, “it was over so fast!”. Obviously, I feel really lucky that I had the opportunity to go in the first place, but I left a little disappointed that I didn’t get to really say anything to them at all. I didn’t get to tell them I loved their videos or how happy I was to meet them. It was basically “Hi, how are you? Good! Okay, let’s get a picture!”. I know it’s not their fault, and it’s probably how every meetup goes, but you know how you get an opportunity you’re probably not going to ever get again, and you just want it to be perfect? Well, I guess I should just focus on the fact that I actually got to meet them! It’s definitely something I’m going to remember fondly for years to come. It’s going to be so crazy watching their next videos and thinking “Whoa, I actually met them!”.
I’m curious, have any of you been to a meet and greet like this before? I’m dying to know others’ experiences!
