This week, a book recommendation, a super easy churro recipe, and words of wisdom from Amy Poehler.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt | I don’t exactly remember why I picked this book to read. Whatever the reason, I’m so, so glad I did. It is simply amazing. It’s about a young boy in New York who survives an accident that kills his mother. The story follows him through the next 10 or so years of his life, through the aftermath of the accident, his grief, his relationships. Throughout his life, he clings to a precious painting that connects him to his mother and life before the accident. I won’t lie, it’s an incredibly long book, and it’s very sad, but I will say that when I finished the book, I felt more hopeful than depressed. So, it’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s rewarding. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.
Amy Poehler AMA | I absolutely adore Amy Poehler. She’s such a great role model, and she’s super hilarious, obvs. Parks and Rec is one of my all-time favorite tv shows, and I can’t wait to read her book! Yesterday, she did an AMA (Ask me anything) on Reddit. I loved reading her answers…she comes off as down-to-earth, kind, and humble.
Waffle Iron Churros | If you’re looking for a super easy dessert, I recommend this recipe. It combines two already perfect foods…waffles and churros! What more do you need, really? It’s also slightly healthier because there’s no deep frying involved. I made these last night, and my husband and I both loved them. I think the total cooking time was less than half an hour, too, which was awesome!
Do you have any book recommendations? I’m always looking for something to add to my list 🙂
